So, I say, sitting down beside you, the first thing you need to know about me is that I create spreadsheets for fun.
Sometimes, I decide I’m going to dig deep into a fandom. Most of the time, it’s one of my own fandoms. Sometimes – oddly enough – it’s actually not my fandom, but I want to find out why it’s popular or understand its effect on the current fandom discourse. Sometimes it then becomes my fandom. It’s hard to not care about something after you’ve exhaustively researched it.
I call these deep dives “Spreadsheet Projects,” because they usually are, and tend to be several hundred lines long. I am notoriously bad at sticking to one all the way through in one go, and so they wax and wane in my attention. Sometimes I consume them in great greedy gulps, and then walk away, sated, for a few months at a time.
My spreadsheet project right now is this: What if I were to experience the entire Disney-approved canon (mostly) for Star Wars, in published order (mostly).
One of my goals with this space is to start sharing those with other people. If you want to see the original plan and current progress, I’ve uploaded the spreadsheet in all its glory here: The Great Star Wars Canon Project. I will attempt to keep the spreadsheet updated, as well as posting my thoughts here, whenever I have enough of something to say to warrant it. I hope that those of you who love Star Wars will be entertained.
